Winter Storage

Properly preparing your motorcycle for long-term storage is crucial to ensure it’s in good condition when you’re ready to ride again. Here are some tips:

1. Clean it thoroughly: Dirt and grime can corrode surfaces over time, so give your bike a good wash.

2. Change the oil and filter: Used oil contains contaminants that can damage your engine during storage. Fresh oil helps protect internal components.

3. Top off fluids: Ensure your coolant, brake fluid, and other essential fluids are at the proper levels.

4. Fuel system: Add a fuel stabilizer to prevent the fuel from breaking down and causing issues. Run the bike for a few minutes to let the stabilized fuel circulate through the system.

5. Remove the battery: If possible, store the battery in a cool, dry place and keep it on a battery maintainer to prevent it from losing charge.

6. Tire maintenance: Inflate the tires to the recommended pressure to prevent flat spots. If possible, elevate the tires or put the bike on a stand.

7. Protect against rust: Apply a corrosion inhibitor to metal surfaces, and consider using a cover to protect the bike from dust and moisture.

8. Store in a cool, dry place: Ideally, keep your motorcycle in a garage or shed to protect it from the elements.

9. Secure the exhaust: Critters love to make homes in warm exhaust pipes, so plug them or cover them to prevent unwanted guests.

10. Documentation: Take photos of your bike and make a checklist of the steps you’ve taken for easy reference when you’re ready to bring it out of storage.

With these steps, your motorcycle should be in good shape when you’re ready to hit the road again!
